Rough Storyboard

Very rough storyboard of the incident that changes my characters mood.

Sketches

Here are some sketches of buildings you may find in NY. These are some rough ideas of how my selected environments layout and style could look like.

Research

Bars in New York

Here are images of some bars located in new york. (Top two images) I prefer the bars on the corner of the streets. These look like some interesting bars to model.

These two images i was focused on the designs of the apartments above the bars. Design of windows and style of bricks etc.

Bars 1960s

I thought i would be good to look at bars from different time periods, most interested in bars from the 60s as i like that vintage look. The style of the font of the bar signs and the printing on the walls over bricks. Also, would be cool to have a retro car parked outside!

Apartment Fire Escapes

These are probably the most common styled apartments you will find in downtown Manhattan, New York. The typical fire escapes on the front of apartments, adding these will help give my bar that american style street environment.

Irish Bars

Irish bars are very popular in New York. Collected a few images just incase i think about making my bar a irish bar perhaps.

Bar Signs

Just a few images of different styles of bar signs.

Looking at these images and studying them has been good research and influence on how i want to model and design my selected environment.

Idea

Location

Bar in New York

Story

Two guys , both friends having a casual drink in a booth. One tells the other theres a cute girl sitting behind him. The guy is in a sunk seating position holding his drink with laid-back eyes trying to be cool and subtle and look without making it obvious. His body soon starts to creep up and places his drink on the table whilst looking at his friend still ,turning  his head slowly in a calm and subtle way then suddenly he loses patience and he aggressively turns his whole upper body and head and faces a close up of the camera.

Mood

Im finding it hard to describe what change of emotion this is. I like to describe it as this laid back not interested mood to being interested and curious but without making it obvious.

I really like this change of emotion because there are so many different ways you can do it. But i like the idea of this situation. Every time i go out im almost the guy who has his back turned and doesn't know whats going on behind him. Whether if its a football match score on tv or a girl or even a celebrity turning up.

So creating a short incident that relates to this would be cool.

2nd Year Brief

For my 1st term 2nd year at uni for animation i have been set a brief that involves creating my own environment/layout in 3D. This environment will be the main stage where a short situation/incident of 1 or 2 characters containing a change of emotion. The characters i will be animating will be a Norman rig and will have some dialogue played using sound clips off youtube. Not a huge fan of 3D but i think this will be a fun challenging project to work on.
