Maya

Here are some rendered images of my model. I used what we learnt in maya lessons HDRi images which allows you to have these 360 background and creates this nice effect with my model.
As you see i have been experimenting around with different HDRI images and then working on different shading for my model.

Life Drawing

Thought i would build on drawing feet, thanks to Denise for giving out these guide booklets on how to capture the structure.

Here are some Portrairs we did with Denise

Final Sting

After Alex and his amazing editing skills, here is Average Bear!

Sound

For sound we pretty much used the sounds from my animatic which were sound effects from Hanna Barbera cartoons. We then edited them on Soundtrack Pro and then fitted it and timed in with the finished version of our animation on After Effects.

Animating Effects

Another effect i animated was for the still image of the bee hive making a buzzing noise. To create this effect i just did some simple zig zag lines that just echo out of the bee hive. We spent a while thinking on what sort of line would come out of a bee hive. After a few experiments the zig zags had suited the image and that buzzing effect.

Animating Effects

Here is are the cave bang effects I animated for when the bear gets stung by the bees in his cave. This went really nice with shaking affect we did on after effects.

Animating Bees - Leaving Hive

Out of all the Bee animations this was the most difficult one.
The problem with this scene was how to animate  the bees coming out of the hive in a burst!
I had ideas of making the hive like a balloon and it blowing up and then bursting firing the bees out.
After a few attempts I finally got this bursting effect with the hive blowing up giving it that sense that the hive is full of these angry bees ready to burst out.
I done bee animation last as it took me a while to come up with an idea of how to get them leaving the hive.
I think this worked out quite well and started the chase scene nicely.

Animating Bees - Arrow and Bow

The next step to animating the bees was where you see the anger in the bees. We showed this by transforming them into a bow and arrow which fires at the bear who luckily ducks!

Again, like with the logo i had to animate the bees transforming. Going from this big round shape to forming into a thin narrow shape.

I had to look at a few images of bow and arrows first to get an understanding of how it functions. This helped me with the anticipation when the arrow gets pulled back and holds for a few seconds to gain that power and speed. It also gave a smooth fluid look.

Here is a clip of the bees changing into the bow and arrow (done on flipbook)

Animating Bees - Transforming Logo

For this project not only did we have to pick one from a group of different genres but we had to advertise our university by showing the logo in our animations.
Our idea was to include the universities logo through the bees which i was selected to animate.
So we decided to add the logo at the start of the chase scene by making the bees transforming into the Universitie logo.
I started off with collecting a image of the universities logo, and traced over it by drawing the bees in the style we chose (left) and started the animation from there.
I then started the beginning of the animation and progressively  animated the group of bees from the last scene i did and transformed them into the universities emblem.

It was really important to make sure the universities logo was clear and noticeable and still looked like bees. To make sure it still looked like bees i drew another emblem but did scribbled anti clockwise to make it look like the bees are still moving and alive.
This was another technique i used to give that life feel to the bees.

I was very pleased with the outcome and was a fun way to advertise our universities logo.

Animating Bees - Moving

Here are the still images from the first animation of the bees. We decided to just stick with a simple scribble design for the bees and thought  Hanna Barbera bees would look like this. As there are a group of bees chasing after the bear this was the easiest way to style to animate and still have that swarm effect.
This was just a basic animation of the bees moving slightly in one direction.
Next, I have to animate the bees transforming into the university logo and arrow...

Sting Layout - Chase Scene

Out of all the layouts i found the chase scene the most difficult. At first i tried to just do a single layout like my animatic but i soon found out this wasn't working. So instead i just made a longer layout design (above).
This was a lot better and makes more sense as this will just be looping making it look like the scene is moving.
The last layout background is the bears cave (right).
This will be attached to the end of the chase scene layout where the bear runs into his cave. Still keeping that Hanna Barbera style, I think these two layouts are my best pieces and show development in capturing Hanna Barbera genre through layouts.
I am very pleased how these turned out.

Sting Layouts

Sting Layouts

Here is my first layout i produced for our sting.
The image (left) is a early version before i started adding in more detail to the bushes and putting in a sky. The reason why i showed this image (left) is because i was stuck on what colour to make the sky for the all layouts. After watching a few yogi bear scenes i found one where the sky was pale yellow...so i added that in and it really gave this natural look to my layout.
This is completed version of my first layout. As you can see i moved the trees and bushes around and added in the yellow sky and it really compliments the whole layout.
After this layout i felt confident i had captured this Hanna Barbera style.
I felt i had designed this nice effect over the trees and bushes using a selected brush from photoshop.
I was very pleased with how this turned out.

Sting Layout Research

These were just a few images i looked at to help me capture that Hanna Barbera style for my sting layouts.

This was one of my main focus points to get right in the sting. To do a Hanna Barbera genre animation it has to look like a Hanna Barbera first.

I really focused on the trees and bushes in these scenes has they are featured a lot in my sting.

This was a good starting point to start my sting layouts.

Character Model Sheets

I also designed these model sheets to help Alex study the character whilst animating

Character Turn Around

Here i have designed a quick turn around of our character to help Alex start animating
